5 Essentials Oils For Your Skin

1. Grapeseed Oil

One of my recent favorites is grapeseed oil, which is, as the name suggests, extracted from the seeds of grapes. Grapeseed oil is used widely in skincare and cosmetic products because of its moisturizing properties.

It is also a great source of fatty acids and vitamin E—both are great for your skin—and has astringent properties that will tighten and tone your skin.

Three times a week before bed, I use a cotton ball to apply grapeseed oil to my face. The result is moisturized, shining skin! You can even use grapeseed oil if you have sensitive skin, as it causes no skin irritation; actress Emma Stone uses natural grapeseed oil because her allergies prevent her from using other skin products. “I pretty much smell like grape all the time,” she says.

2. Tea Tree Oil

If you’re battling acne, try tea tree oil. It has antibacterial and antiviral properties that will help to destroy bacteria that contribute to acne.  It’s a great alternative to benzoyl peroxide, which can often dry out your skin. Using tea tree oil is as simple as adding it to your face wash or moisturizer…you can even use it as a spot treatment on problem areas!

3. Lemongrass Oil

Lemongrass oil is great for those with oily skin or large pores because of its astringent properties. Applying it to your skin will clear bacteria and excess, shrink your pores, and prevent blackheads.
For a great scrub using lemongrass. Modify it for your face using a finer, granulated sugar.

4. Coconut Oil

Many of you probably use coconut oil on your hair…did you know you can also use it on your skin? Like tea tree oil, it has antibacterial and antifungal properties, and it is incredibly moisturizing.

Some research shows that it can even be helpful in treating eczema!
If you’re uncomfortable leaving the oil on your face overnight, try using it before your cleanser. Give yourself a “facial massage” and then rinse off the oil with the cleanser of your choice.

5. Carrot Seed Oil

Carrot seed oil is rich in antioxidants and therefore is used in many anti-aging skin products. It is believed that carrot seed oil can reduce wrinkles and rejuvenate the skin. Again, you can either use it alone, or you can add it to another product, such as your favorite night cream.

Please note that the carrot seed oil used for skin care is VERY different from the carrot seed oil used for cooking!
