We've all been there; countless trips around The Perfume Shop
feeling sick and light headed and no closer to finding the right
fragrance for you. Or worse spending money on one you don't actually
like.
Well, we've put together some fool proof tips to ensuring you come away with the scent of your dreams.
You can try and match your perfume to current makeup trends or just find the one: Eau de You.
1. Give yourself time to try
This
is nothing to rush into, make sure you have enough time to dedicate to
the decision - this is not an after work duck into Boots situation.
2. Limit the number you try
There
will come a point when you've just smelt too many and you feel like
your nose is broken. Perfume overload will not lead to good decision
making.
3. Avoid alcohol
Drinking can have a big effect on your sense of smell so this is not a task for the day after a night out.
4. Try it on your ski
Using pieces of card is helpful to start with but fragrances change a lot with the chemicals on your skin. What may smell good on paper may be just gross on your arm.
5. Give it 10cm
10cm is about the right distance to give the scent enough air and space to breathe, to be the best version of itself.
6. Give it time
Perfumes
will continue to change and develop over time as they sit on your skin.
You have to see if you like something as much an hour after you've
sprayed it.
7. Don't rub your wrists together
It's a terrible habit we've all learnt, but rubbing fragrance between your wrists actually damages it.
8. Ask for testers
They have testers for a reason, it's important to check and see if you want to live with the scent every day.
9. Ignore the bottle
Often,
sadly, some of the loveliest perfumes have the ugliest bottles.
Remember, no one can smell the bottle - and you can hide it if it really
offends you that much!
10. Ignore other people
Your
choice of scent is a very personal decision. This is one of those times
when your friend's opinion isn't actually that helpful. They may like
floral while you like musk, you're the one who has to wear it day in day
out.
